Patient and public involvement

What is patient and public involvement?

Patient and public involvement is about members of the public working with researchers to guide, develop, conduct and communicate research activities. It is often abbreviated to PPI.

What does it involve?

Involvement usually involves meeting with researchers to help shape and develop the research project. it can include:

  • Identifying research priorities

  • Advising of key outcomes measures and developing research methods

  • preparing and reviewing study documents e.g participant information sheets

  • Help with interpreting findings from the research and what they mean.

  • Help sharing research findings with the wider public

Who can get involved?

No medical or research knowledge is needed to get involved. Anyone with an interest or lived experience relevant to the topic who is willing to share their thoughts and ideas with researchers can be involved. We are always looking for people to help us with our research. If you are interested in getting involved or would like more information please contact us using the message box at the bottom of the page.

  • Ensure maximum relevance of the study to adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes.

  • develop patient information sheets, consent forms, questionnaires, interview guides, and recruitment ideas.

  • Help interpret results

  • Help develop an intervention to support physical activity in adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes
